3 Hunters From Florida Found Dead In Field

A group of hunters from Florida were found dead in a field on Wednesday.

In total three hunters were found dead after they were trapped in an underground cistern that was partially filled with water.

Initial reports stated, “a hunting party of 3 males and a female ended up on foot in a corn field when one of their dogs fell into the cistern.”

The report continued to state that one of the hunters then went into the cistern to save the dogs but was unable to get out.

Two other hunters went down into the cistern too but also got stuck and eventually died.

The fourth Hunter went back to their truck to call 911 but by the time emergency crews arrived it was too late.

Check out what CNN reported:

Three hunters from Florida and a dog were found dead after they got trapped in an underground cistern partially filled with water in a Texas cornfield, the Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office said.

Authorities responded Wednesday morning to reports Delvys Garcia, 37, Denise Martinez, 26, and Noel Vigil-Benitez, 45, were trapped in a hole in the ground in northern Bastrop County.

There were no signs of life, and initial reports indicated “a hunting party of 3 males and 1 female ended up on foot in a corn field when one of their dogs fell into the cistern,” authorities said.

Authorities believe while one of the people ended up in the cistern after “possibly” trying to rescue the dog, the other two entered it to rescue them, they said.

“A 4th member of the party went to his truck to summon assistance and call 911,” the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook.

Per The New York Post:

Three hunters tragically died trying to rescue a dog that had fallen into an underground cistern in Texas on Wednesday, local officials confirmed.

The four-person party had planned to meet up with a friend to go hog hunting when one of their dogs escaped their truck and darted out into a cornfield in Bastrop County, outside of Austin.

In the field, the dog fell into a hole that led to the underground tank, and the three victims — identified as Florida resident Delvys Garcia, 37, Denise Martinez, 26, and Noel Vigil-Benitez, 45 — tried to save the dog, and then each other.

“It’s a sad day whenever it ends like it did yesterday,” Bastrop County Sheriff Maurice Cook told reporters during a news briefing Thursday, USA Today reported.

“Can you imagine? You have loved ones and they come to Texas to hunt and then it ends like this, which was a sad tragedy that just happened,” he said.

The sheriff’s office said it responded to a report of three people trapped inside a hole in the ground around 1 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
