DEVELOPING: Reports of Possible Active Shooter at Senate Office Buildings

U.S. Capitol Police responded to a possible active shooter at the Senate office buildings.

Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to a concerning 911 call about a possible active shooter.

Capitol Police told those inside the building to shelter in place.

There were no confirmed reports of gunshots in the buildings.

The Senate is on recess, and only staffers are working in August.

“Our officers are searching in and around the Senate Office Buildings in response to a concerning 911 call. Please stay away from the area as we are still investigating. We will continue to communicate with the public here,” the U.S. Capitol Police wrote.

“If you are inside the Senate Buildings, everyone inside should be sheltering in place as the report was for a possible active shooter. It should be noted that we do not have any confirmed reports of gunshots.”

The Capitol Police minutes ago prepared to reopen the Senate office buildings.

“4:17 pm: USCP is standing by to prepare the Senate office buildings for re-entry. There is no active threat at this time,” the Capitol Police wrote.

The report of an active shooter appeared to a “bad call,” according to reports.

From CNBC:

Police in Washington, D.C., said Wednesday that a report of an active shooter at a Senate office building “appears to be a bad call.”

No injuries have been reported and no shooter has been located, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Police Department told CNBC in an email at 3:18 p.m. ET.

U.S. Capitol Police Chief Thomas Manger at a press conference later Wednesday seemed to agree. “This may have been a bogus call,” he said.

The U.S. Capitol Police issued a shelter-in-place order before 3 p.m. for people inside Senate office buildings while its officers responded to a report of a possible active shooter.

The USCP had tweeted that its officers were searching in and around those buildings “in response to a concerning 911 call.” The department noted at the time that it had not confirmed reports of gunshots.
