Senator Katie Britt (R-AL) was admitted to a medical center after experiencing a ‘sudden onset of numbness’ in her face.
“While with my family in Montgomery this past weekend, I experienced a sudden onset of numbness in my face. I was admitted to Baptist Medical Center South for evaluation. Doctors determined that my symptoms were a result of swelling of a facial nerve, most likely caused by a post-viral infection,” Britt said in a released statement.
“A specialist from UAB has subsequently evaluated me on an outpatient basis and concurred with the prognosis and course of treatment. My condition is not life-threatening, and recovery could take several weeks.”

The Hill reports:
The news came only days after the Senate broke for its month-long August recess, with lawmakers not slated to return to Washington until after Labor Day.
Britt, 41, won her first term in office last year and has largely kept a low profile during her first seven months in the upper chamber. However, she was added to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s (R-Ky.) leadership team recently.
ADVERTISEMENTThe junior Alabama senator also sits on the Senate Appropriations Committee, which is set for a busy September as it looks to help avoid a government shutdown and fund the government for Fiscal 2024.
Britt is the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate from Alabama and the youngest Republican woman ever elected to the Senate.
“Joe Biden’s vaccine mandate is yet another anti-free market overreach. This administration, going around Congress again, is changing the fabric of our nation from being built on individual responsibility to being marred by dependency on government,” Britt said in 2021.
“Forcing businesses to do this against their will tramples the free market principles that have made America great.”

“The decision to get vaccinated should be freely made by individuals in consultation with their doctor, not at the unilateral decree of Biden and his bureaucrats,” Britt continued.
“As I’ve said before, I chose to get the vaccine after consulting my family’s doctor. But the federal government has no business forcing employers or individuals to do this. It’s that simple,” she added.
