Donald Trump’s Lawyers Meet With Special Counsel Jack Smith

Donald Trump’s lawyers met Thursday morning with Special Counsel Jack Smith’s team as the D.C. grand jury reconvened Thursday.

Although Trump received a target letter from Jack Smith last week, there’s no indication a notice of indictment was given.

“My attorneys had a productive meeting with the DOJ this morning, explaining in detail that I did nothing wrong, was advised by many lawyers, and that an Indictment of me would only further destroy our Country. No indication of notice was given during the meeting — Do not trust the Fake News on anything!” Trump wrote Thursday on Truth Social.

ABC News reports:

Trump attorneys John Lauro and Todd Blanche met with Smith’s team following the receipt of a target letter alerting Trump he is a target of the special counsel’s investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 election.

Trump’s lawyers were there to make the case for why they believed Trump shouldn’t be indicted. Smith was present for the meeting, sources said.

The meeting ended after an hour, sources told ABC News.

An indictment would be the third one for the former president, who was indicted last month on 37 criminal counts related to his handling of classified materials. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges. In April, Trump pleaded not guilty to a 34-count indictment from the Manhattan DA charging him with falsifying business records in connection with a hush money payment made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

According to NBC News, Trump’s lawyers were advised to expect an indictment.

However, Trump’s team refuted the mainstream outlet’s report as incorrect.

Per NBC News:

NBC News reported that Trump’s lawyers met with Smith’s office and were advised to expect an indictment, but Trump and a spokesman refuted that report as being incorrect.

“A court official told reporters waiting at a federal courthouse in Washington, D.C. on Thursday afternoon that there haven’t been any indictments returned today and none are expected,” NBC News reported at 2:58 p.m. ET Thursday.

Despite the updates, mainstream outlets are still suggesting an indictment could be imminent.

“Do you think that A.G. Garland, and Deranged Jack Smith, understand that we are in the middle of a major political campaign for President of the United States? Have they looked at recent poll numbers? Why didn’t they bring these ridiculous charges years before – Why did they wait to bring them NOW – A virtually unheard of scenario? PROSECUTORIAL MISCONDUCT! ELECTION INTERFERENCE!” Trump said Sunday night on Truth Social.

Donald Trump announced last week he received a target letter from Jack Smith for the January 6th investigation.
