Well, well, well, it seems Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign is unraveling faster than a cheap Christmas sweater.
You remember DeSantis, right?
The so-called “chosen one” who was supposed to topple Trump from his golden throne in the 2024 Republican primary?
Yeah, that DeSantis.
Even Bret Baier and John Roberts over at Fox News, who could barely contain their snickers, joked that DeSantis’ campaign might not survive to see another week.
And honestly, who can blame them?
I mean, what’s next?
Will he be selling “DeSantis 2024” merch at discount prices?
I tell ya, this is a real-life Shakespearean tragedy in the making, folks.
The hero, so full of promise and potential, faltering before the first act is even over.
The DeSantis campaign has apparently decided to drop a third of its staff like a hot potato, axing 38 jobs across departments.
Talk about a “reset”.
More like a desperate Hail Mary pass in the fourth quarter!
You know it’s bad when you’ve gone from being the potential slayer of the Trump dragon to becoming the punchline of a bad political joke. DeSantis has had his fair share of missteps: shaky polls, money troubles, and backlash over his oh-so-conservative policies.
No wonder they’re calling him “DeSaster.” His presidential ambitions are starting to look like a sandcastle at high tide: destined to crumble, no matter how much effort he puts into it.
Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if DeSantis starts wishing for a time machine to go back and give his presidential dreams a second thought.
But as the saying goes, you make your bed, now you’ve got to lie in it.
So, let’s just sit back, grab a cold one, and enjoy the show.
Because at this rate, the DeSantis campaign could turn into the most entertaining political meltdown of the season. And trust me, you don’t want to miss a second of this spectacle!
Newsweek confirms that the lauded Fox News hosts were mocking the DeSantis campaign:
Fox News anchors Bret Baier and John Roberts joked that Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign may not make it to next week following a report that he let go of one-third of his staff.
DeSantis, whose embrace of right-wing culture war issues and handling of the COVID-19 pandemic propelled him to national prominence, has long been viewed as the Republican with the greatest chance of taking down former President Donald Trump in the 2024 Republican presidential primary. But his campaign so far has been marred by floundering polling, financial woes and criticisms over some of his conservative policies, prompting concerns.
Politico reported on Tuesday that the DeSantis campaign cut roughly a third of his staff, amounting to 38 jobs, amid a “reset” aimed at getting his bid back on the rails after weeks of troubles. The cuts will affect positions across departments, including event- planning, according to Politico.
Roberts and Baier discussed the layoffs Tuesday afternoon, with Baier describing the news as a “big sign.”
If you thought the DeSantis campaign was a dumpster fire before, hold onto your hats because it just got a whole lot worse.
Not only has our dear Governor axed a third of his staff, but it turns out he was employing a guy who thinks it’s cool to share White supremacist imagery.
Talk about a hiring fail!
Nate Hochman, a former speechwriter for the DeSantis campaign, apparently thought it was a bright idea to retweet a video that swapped out the Florida state seal for a Sonnenrad—a symbol popular among neo-Nazis.
To put it mildly, it’s not the kind of thing you want your campaign staff sharing unless you’re running for Grand Imperial Wizard.
The campaign was quick to say “Nate who?” as soon as the news broke.
“Nate Hochman is no longer with the campaign,” they told CNN, conveniently neglecting to mention whether his love of hate symbols had anything to do with his sudden unemployment.
DeSantis' mask is off after a video w/ Neo Nazi symbolism by a staffer surfaced. The DeSantis campaign knew they had a Nazi on staff & what did they do? They gave him the keys. Journalists & donors alike need to demand Ron discuss this. @TheRickWilson w/ more in the video below. pic.twitter.com/f09pJ8JMyt

WATCH: This is the since deleted DeSantis for President ad that was retweeted by official staffers on the @RonDeSantis for President campaign.
The video they reposted literally features a Nazi symbol imposed over the Florida state flag and DeSantis’s face with soldiers marching… pic.twitter.com/TtnCnL30cU

DeSantis campaign staff made the Nazi video. This is absolutely outrageous. https://t.co/Zitq47GKrU

Is this the caliber of people DeSantis is surrounding himself with?
I mean, come on!
If he can’t even manage to hire people who know better than to publicly support White supremacy, what does that say about his ability to lead?
CNN has more details on this HUMILIATING moment for the DeSantis campaign:
A staffer for Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is no longer with the 2024 presidential campaign just days after he retweeted a video featuring White supremacist imagery.
Over the weekend, Nate Hochman, who served as a speechwriter for the DeSantis campaign, according to a source familiar with his role, retweeted a video that features DeSantis’ face over the Florida state seal that spins into a Sonnenrad, with the words “Make America Florida,” as soldiers march in the background. The Sonnenrad symbol is an alternative to the swastika and is used to show support for White supremacy and neo-Nazism.
“Nate Hochman is no longer with the campaign. And we will not be commenting on him further,” a campaign official told CNN. The campaign declined to comment on whether the video played a role in Hochman’s employment status.
DeSantis’ campaign has been stumbling like a drunken sailor, but this?
This is a whole new level of disaster.
It’s not just that he’s mismanaging his staff or his funds.
It’s that he seems to have a real knack for hiring folks who harbor views that are not just wrong, but repugnant.
So, folks, next time someone tries to tell you that DeSantis is the great Republican hope for 2024, remember this: a man who can’t even manage a campaign without endorsing neo-Nazism is hardly fit to manage a country.
It’s time we put “DeSaster” back where he belongs: out of the running and out of our minds.
