DC Disciplinary Board Aims To Disbar Rudy Giuliani

A DC-based Bar disciplinary panel has called for former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani to be disbarred.

The disciplinary panel has called for Rudy Giuliani to be disbarred for claiming “massive election fraud but having no evidence of it.”

The panel review is the first step, next Giuliani’s ability to practice law will be reviewed by the District of Columbia Bar by the Board on Professional Responsibility, and then the D.C. Court of Appeals will review Giuliani’s case.

Since 2021, Giuliani has been suspended of practicing law in both New York and Washington D.C.

The Wall street Journal shared these details:

A District of Columbia-based disciplinary panel has recommended Rudy Giuliani be disbarred for his “frivolous” efforts on behalf of then-President Donald Trump to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

The committee, an arm of the District of Columbia Bar, found in a report released on Friday that Giuliani had undermined trust in federal elections by directing Trump’s legal challenge to the presidential vote count in Pennsylvania and promoting unfounded theories of fraud in court.

“He claimed massive election fraud but had no evidence of it,” the committee wrote. “By prosecuting that destructive case Mr. Giuliani, a sworn officer of the Court, forfeited his right to practice law.”

Friday’s decision from the three-lawyer panel was just the first step: The decision will now be reviewed by the nine-member Board on Professional Responsibility, and then turned over to the D.C. Court of Appeals. Giuliani’s licenses to practice law in New York and Washington have been suspended since 2021.

Here’s what NBC News reported:

A disciplinary board for the DC Bar Association recommended Friday that former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani be stripped of his law license over reckless fraud claims after the 2020 election.

The panel announced its findings in a 38-page decision centered on a post-election lawsuit Giuliani filed in an effort to dismiss thousands of votes in the battleground state of Pennsylvania won by President Joe Biden.

“Mr. Giuliani’s effort to undermine the integrity of the 2020 presidential election has helped destabilize our democracy. His malicious and meritless claims have done lasting damage,” the panel wrote.

“He claimed massive election fraud but had no evidence of it. By prosecuting that destructive case Mr. Giuliani, a sworn officer of the Court, forfeited his right to practice law,” the panel added. “His utter disregard for facts denigrates the legal profession.”
