Former Democrat Mayor Bill de Blasio Announces Separation From His Lesbian Wife

Former Democrat mayor of New York City Bill de Blasio and his lesbian wife have announced they are getting separated.

Bill de Blasio and his wife Chirlane McCray have announced their separation after being married for 27 years.

In 2020 the couple told the New York Times that de Blasio’s failed presidential run and seven years in office as the mayor of NYC put a strain on their marriage.

The former mayor of NYC also told the New York Times that he took a chance marrying a woman who “was an out lesbian and wrote an article called ‘I Am a Lesbian.”

Here’s what the Daily Mail reported:

De Blasio, 62, and Chirlane McCray, 68, divulged a variety of causes for their split – from Covid to the pressure of her previously-declared homosexuality.

But the couple – who were married in 1994 by two gay officiators, and who are parents to Chiara, 25 and Dante, 26 – are still going to live together in Brooklyn while seeing other people.

During an interview with the New York Times, where they asked to disclose details of their non-divorce, de Blasio also spoke of his recent decision to start dyeing his hair.

The couple has made headlines in recent years amid financial scandals – including de Blasio being fined almost $475,000 last month for misusing his personal police detail during his failed 2020 presidential bid – a punishment he has appealed.

McCray has also been embroiled in high-dollar controversy – as she failed to explain where $850 million given to a mental health program she is involved with had gone in 2019.

Per The New York Post:

Chirlane McCray says she and former Mayor Bill de Blasio are “still very much in love” — and hope to serve as “a model” for other couples — despite announcing their plans to separate after almost 30 years of marriage.

“This is a big change for us, but Bill and I are still very much in love,” McCray, 68, told reporters outside the couple’s Park Slope home Wednesday morning. “We came to this decision together and I think it’s the right decision for us.”

McCray looked cheerful as she added that “it’s been months” since the couple, who announced their separation in a New York Times interview, decided to start living more individual lives.

She also admitted that the pair is still figuring out their new normal.

“It’s one thing to make a decision, it’s another thing to think … figuring out how it plays out and we will be talking about that over the next months,” she explained to reporters.
