Zak Herbstreit, son of sportscaster and former Ohio State quarterback Kirk Herbstreit, was hospitalized Tuesday.
He reportedly has been admitted to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and is being “monitored and evaluated.”
Although the reason for his hospitalization is unknown, it appears it may be due to a cardiac issue.
In a note shared by Kirk Herbstreit, the walk-on tight end said “cardiologists” were looking after him.
“My son Zak is in the hospital and wanted me to send this note out. I just wanted to add how much we appreciate so many people reaching out concerned about his well being. He has a long journey ahead of him,” Kirk Herbstreit tweeted.
The note from Zak Herbstreit read:
“I have had a bit of a setback these past couple of weeks. Not feeling right. Culminated with tests results this past Friday that forced me into the hospital. I have some of the best cardiologists looking after me, and I am beyond appreciative. We are doing a number of tests and conjuring a plan to ensure that I will be able to be back to feeling normal again. I appreciate the overwhelming support over the past couple of days. I am feeling good and hope to be out of the hospital soon.”

Moments later, Herbstreit provided an update on Zak’s condition, saying that he was “awake and on his phone from time to time.”
Zak has been with the Buckeyes since 2021. He previously played tight end for Montgomery Bell Academy in Nashville, Tennessee. He is a third-generation Ohio State football player, his grandfather, Jim Herbstreit, played running back, and his father started at quarterback from 1989 to 1993.

Kirk Herbstreit announced in April 2022 that he would miss the 2022 NFL Draft due to having a blood clot.
Hey guys-wanted to update you on my situation this week. Unfortunately I won't be part of our ESPN/ABC NFL Draft coverage. Our team in Vegas will have it covered, and I will be watching.
Congrats to all the players! I love this event and look forward to returning next year. pic.twitter.com/UvBsI3TaUV— Kirk Herbstreit (@KirkHerbstreit) April 25, 2022
From SI:
Longtime ESPN analyst Kirk Herbstreit announced on Monday he will be unable to work the 2022 NFL Draft after doctors discovered a blood clot.
Herbstreit, a mainstay on ESPN’s College GameDay and a regular on the network’s draft coverage since 2018, shared the unfortunate news in a video on social media.
“Unfortunately, I will not be able to come out to Vegas and be a part of this year’s coverage. Doctors have recently found a blood clot in my system and I’m so very fortunate to have really good doctors who I trust,” Herbstreit said. “I feel good, but out of an abundance of caution, I think we’re just going to take a step back from this year’s draft coverage. … I will be watching like everybody else. Look forward to seeing all the different storylines unfold. But I will see you guys at next year’s draft. And you guys have a great week and I just wanted to fill you in on why I will not be out there at the draft this year. Take care.”
“Got my 2nd vaccine today. So thankful to take that next step. Never really looked at the decision any other way other than I just wanted to be vaccinated and feel that freedom. No brainer for me-Appreciative for the opportunity,” Herbstreit said in April 2021.
