California Gov. Gavin Newsom proposed a 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would attack one of the Bill of Rights.
Newsom’s proposal would undermine the 2nd Amendment and restrict gun rights across the country.
The Democrat governor wants to make the rest of the country like California, which will never happen.
“I’m proposing the 28th Amendment to the United States Constitution to help end our nation’s gun violence crisis. The American people are sick of Congress’ inaction,” Newsom said.
“The 28th will enshrine 4 widely supported gun safety freedoms — while leaving the 2nd Amendment intact,” he added.
Gun safety freedoms?
That’s an oxymoron.
The proposed amendment includes:
- 1) Raising the minimum age to purchase a gun to 21
- 2) Universal background checks
- 3) A reasonable waiting period for gun purchases
- 4) Banning the civilian purchase of assault weapons

Just the News reports:
The state of California already has most of these laws in place, with the exception being the age restrictions. Licensed hunters and members of the Armed Forces or law enforcement who are over the age of 18 are allowed to purchase or possess certain firearms, according to The Giffords Institute.

From The Giffords Institute:
California generally prohibits any person from selling handguns to young people under the age of 21, or from selling, loaning, or transferring firearms of any type to minors under 18. These restrictions are subject to certain exceptions, such as for the temporary transfer of a firearm to a minor by the minor’s parent or legal guardian.
Licensed firearms dealers are subject to stronger age restrictions too, including when selling firearms from their own inventory or processing firearm transfers pursuant to California law for unlicensed individuals. Under California law, licensed dealers are required to verify the transferee’s age and identity prior to delivering any firearm and are generally prohibited from selling, supplying, delivering, or giving possession or control of any firearm (including completed or unfinished frames and receivers) to people under the age of 21. This age restriction is subject to certain exceptions for members of the Armed Forces or law enforcement, as well as for the sale or transfer of certain firearms (other than handguns and semiautomatic rifles) to licensed hunters over the age of 18.
California law also states that ammunition may not be sold to any purchaser under age 18, and that a person must be at least age 18 to obtain a Firearm Safety Certificate, which is required to purchase or acquire firearms in most circumstances. For more information, see the Ammunition Regulation in California section.
