Mike Pence Asked If He Would Pardon J6 Prisoners and Donald Trump

For some reason, former Vice President Mike Pence is running for president.

And for some reason, CNN did a town hall with the former vice president.

Who even knew Pence would be on the cable news network tonight?

I certainly didn't.

During the town hall, Dana Bash asked Pence would he consider pardoning J6 prisoners if he was president.

"Would you consider pardoning any of [the Jan. 6 prisoners]?" Bash asked.

"I have no interest or no intention of pardoning those that assaulted police officers, or vandalized our Capitol," Pence replied.

Bash asked the former vice president if he would pardon President Trump if he were convicted of a crime.

"If Donald Trump is convicted of a crime and you're elected president, would you pardon him?" Bash asked.

Pence refused to answer the question.

CNN provided further details:

When asked about investigations into former President Donald Trump, former Vice President Mike Pence said "no one is above the law" but indicting a former president sends a terrible message to the world and would “be terribly divisive to the country."

"I don't know the facts of the former president's case... but what we've got to have in this country is equal treatment under the law," Pence said in CNN's town hall.

"I was very troubled last summer when for the first time in history, there was a search warrant executed at the home of a former president of the United States," he said.

Pence said he hoped the investigation moved "forward without the dramatic and drastic and divisive step of indicting a former president of the United States. We've got to find a way to move our country forward and restore confidence in equal treatment under the law in this country."

Pence refused to say if he would pardon Trump if he is convicted.

"I know that some in this debate have called the war in Ukraine a territorial dispute. It's not, it was a Russian invasion, an unprovoked Russian invasion. And I believe the United States of America needs to continue to provide the courageous soldiers in Ukraine with the resources they need to repel that Russian invasion and restore their territorial integrity," Pence reportedly replied to a question from a Republican voter.
