Rhode Island City Councilman Found Passed Out With Crack Pipe In Hand


New body camera footage shows the moment Rhode Island police arrested a city councilman after they found him passed out in his car with a crack pipe in his hand.

Matthew Reilly who serves as a City Councilman of Cranston, Rhode Island was discovered by police passed out in his car.

Police began knocking on the door and later open up Reilly’s door and found the councilman choking while holding a crack pipe.

Newly released bodycam footage shows the moment Rhode Island police arrested a city councilman who was found sleeping in a car with cocaine and fentanyl, police say.

Cranston City Councilman Matthew Reilly, a Republican, was arrested Monday morning after a passerby tipped police off to a man who appeared to be having a medical episode in his car.

Reilly, 41, was found passed out in the driver’s seat, and an officer on scene told Reilly, “You have a crack pipe in your hands,” according to the bodycam footage. An officer observed that he appeared to have difficulty breathing or was choking, according to a police report.

Video released by the Cranston Police Department shows the officer shaking Reilly awake before searching him and his vehicle.

A Republican councilman has been arrested after being allegedly caught with a crack pipe and fentanyl in his car.

Cranston police have released body cam footage from the incident, where Matthew Reilly was found passed out, holding a crack pipe in the driver’s seat of the vehicle on Monday.

The video shows the officers attempting to wake Reilly, who appears to be having a medical episode.

‘You were literally choking in your sleep. Someone was flagging me down about it,’ the officer said.

‘I have sleep apnea. I’m sorry,’ Reilly said. ‘Well, you have a crack pipe in your hands,’ the officer responded.

Reilly, 41, denied having any drugs in his vehicle when he was asked by the officer. Police later released a report claiming they found crack laced with fentanyl.
