David Min, a California state senator who’s running for Congress, was arrested Tuesday night for driving under the influence and faces a misdemeanor DUI charge.
California Highway Patrol officers reportedly pulled Min over for driving without headlights on and running through a red light near the State Capitol.
The state senator apologized on Facebook Wednesday for his actions.
“Last night, I was cited for a misdemeanor for driving under the influence,” Min wrote.
“My decision to drive last night was irresponsible.”
“I accept full responsibility and there is no excuse for my actions. To my family, constituents and supporters, I am so deeply sorry,” Min added.

According to a statement from the Capitol Protection Section of the California Highway Patrol, CHP officers noticed Min’s silver Toyota Camry traveling southbound just blocks from the State Capitol without headlights around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday.
“The officers followed the vehicle to 9th St. at Broadway where they observed the vehicle stop at a red light momentarily but then proceed into the intersection while the light remained red,” the agency said in a statement.
Officers pulled over Min and noticed “signs and symptoms of alcohol intoxication.” He was arrested after officers determined he was over the legal limit, CHP said.
It was unclear if he was administered a breathalyzer test.
Min was cited for misdemeanor Driving Under the Influence with Blood Alcohol Content .08% or greater. He was booked into the Sacramento County Jail and released early Wednesday morning.
Fox News noted that Min is running in a critical congressional race for Democrats.
The race is reportedly being targeted by the DCCC (Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee) and NRCC (National Republican Congressional Committee).

Fox News reported:
The NRCC released a statement on Min’s DUI, with spokesperson Ben Petersen writing, “Voters will rightly question David Min’s judgment after this incident, but will California Democrats?”
Democrat Rep. Katie Porter of California endorsed Min to replace her in the House next Congress.
Porter’s seat is a vulnerable one for Democrats; the congresswoman only skated by to re-election with 51.5 percent of the vote in 2022.
Min has served in the state Senate since 2020. Porter is running to replace outgoing Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif.
